Okay, so I'm following my dreams and moving to Philly in August to go to grad school...and giving up the best job I've ever had. So I'm helping to find someone to take it over. It's a web/graphic design position for the technology department at VCU, so points if you tend to be both geeky and artistic.
I create a variety of stuff to teach people about technology resources at VCU. I do some web stuff, but that's not my forte, although it needed to be so you need to have strong web and emerging media skills. You must be able to speak to know-it-all 18 year old freshmen and clueless luddite professors--sometimes with the same media.
Pros: pretty much you'll get the tools you need to do your job (including my 30" Apple Cinema Display, but not till after I leave :-), plus either a MacPro or MacBookPro, your choice), chill boss, great state bennies (including tuition waivers if you want to earn that second degree), lots of autonomy. Cons: cube farm, regular business hours, occasional meetings, often clueless clients, occasional stupid institutional rules.
This job was pretty much created for me, and after they did, they wondered how they ever got along without someone doing this work. So it's not entrenched. I've known for a year I would be leaving, so I've been trying to prepare people for a new person taking over with (hopefully) even better design skills than I have. You will have the opportunity to mold it to make it your own.
Okay, if you're interested, you have to apply online using the VCU system. Go to
www.vcujobs.com and search for "Communications Specialist" in the "Information Technology" category (position #542720). If you have specific questions, you can post a comment here and I'll answer.
